Disputes

When a payment is disputed, answer with the proof.

A chargeback can take back an invoice your customer paid weeks ago. Squirrel tells you the moment one arrives, how long you have, and prepares the answer from the evidence on the payment.

Every dispute, in plain words

The deadline, the reason and your chance to win.

Each dispute shows what the customer's bank says, which payment and invoice it's about, the delivery on file and the date your answer is due.

  • An answer prepared from the payment's own evidence, with how strong it is
  • File it in one click, or let it go when it's not worth fighting
  • Add a photo of the goods or the signed ticket
A dispute in Squirrel: the bank's reason, the invoice, the delivery on file and the prepared answer

Proof of delivery

Win the “it never arrived” dispute before it starts.

Most disputes on delivered goods come down to one question: can you prove it got there? Squirrel keeps that proof with the payment from the day it's made.

  1. 1

    Record the delivery

The day, who signed and the ticket number, on the invoice: from your panel, the file you upload or the API.

  2. 2

    Your customer pays by card

The delivery goes with the payment, in the fields the card networks read when a payment is disputed.

  3. 3

If they say it never arrived

The answer cites the day, the signature and the ticket. Squirrel shows your proof on file and your chance to win.

Nothing slips

Every deadline in view.

Told right away

An email to your owners and admins when a dispute arrives, and another 3 days before its deadline.

Deadlines first

Disputes waiting for your answer sit at the top of your home screen, the nearest deadline first.

The decision, too

Won, lost or accepted: you hear it, and the dispute keeps its whole story.

A photo of the delivery

Attach the signed ticket or the goods at the door to strengthen an answer.

Let the small ones go

Not worth the fight? Say so in one click, and the reminders stop.

In your systems

dispute.created and dispute.closed events on your webhook, and the disputes in the API.

Questions

About disputes.

Something else? Ask us.

What is a dispute, or chargeback?
It's when a cardholder asks their bank to take back a card payment: they say they didn't get the goods, didn't make the payment, or were charged wrong. The bank holds the money until the dispute is decided.
How long do we have to answer?
It depends on the card network and the reason. Squirrel shows the exact date on each dispute, and emails you 3 days before it.
What proof wins a "never received" dispute?
The delivery date, a signature and a tracking or ticket number, plus a description of what was sold. Squirrel puts all of it on the payment when the delivery is recorded before your customer pays.
Do bank payments (ACH) have disputes?
Not like cards. A bank can return a payment instead; Squirrel opens the invoice again and tells you, with the bank's reason.
